IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE ON THE TEAM: Children will need to perform a minimum of two full laps of freestyle without stopping with proper rotary breathing, along with demonstrating enough endurance for an hour workout in the pool. Water presents many dangers and a child who has not developed into a strong enough swimmer presents many risks. While we foster a learning environment and provide some stroke refinement swimming is a sport that children should enter with experience. Our goal as a team is to promote a love of competitive swimming.
PREPARING FOR THE TEAM: For children who are not yet ready for a team but looking to prepare we recommend that they have at a minimum graduated from Red Cross Level 3 lessons and participated in at least 1 session of Level 4. If they are not in Red Cross lessons children should come onto the team with a basic knowledge of the 4 competitive strokes (backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle) and have enough endurance and listening skills to participate in a full hour workout. Cornerstone offers a developmental Swim Team that many of our swimmers have participated on the year before starting our team.
REGISTERING FOR THE TEAM: Registration for the WH Waves will be posted in the last week of August on the team website, www.whwaves.com. Reistration will be open for a week and the form needs to be printed off and mailed in with payment before Labor Day. Any registrations received after this time will be placed on the waiting list.
